Current conditions for RSV indicate an increase in RSV activity in the United States. This is a normal, expected pattern for seasonal RSV transmission, where peaking activity is expected by February.
There are no signs of an increase in pH1N1 activity, however
we remain vigilant as environmental conditions are now optimized for influenza
transmission.
The concern in this advisory is related to possible overlap of expected RSV peaking activity at the same time as resurgence of pH1N1 that may induce pediatric medical infrastructure strain from the outpatient setting up to and including the pediatric intensive care unit.
