On March 28th, reports from a physician based in a Cite Soleil area hospital indicate dehydration and gastrointestinal illnesses continue to be the primary cause of morbidity among earthquake survivors living in temporary shelters; however, mortality due to dehydration and gastrointestinal conditions has remained low. Moreover, malaria cases are reported to be increasing as rainfall frequency and accumulation escalate. The interviewed physician noted that there is still a shortage of diagnostic equipment and health professionals available in Port-au-Prince.
