U.N. Troops Release Tear Gas Onto Haitians Retrieving Relief Aid

Inter Press Service reports that members of the United Nations peacekeeping troops released tear gas onto Haitian civilians on March 29th as individuals were gathering relief aid food supplies in the Cite Militaire area of Cite Soleil.  One Haitian woman that was involved indicated that she and the other individuals targeted with the tear gas were not acting disorderly as they retrieved the food supplies.   However, it is reported that the troops targeted the group with tear gas because they had entered into a “red zone,” a restricted area without authorization.
