A total of 82 suspected, 31 of which were confirmed, typhoid cases were reported by the American Refugee Committee in Camp Acra from June 22 to 25. Fifty-two of the suspected cases were above the age of 5 years old. The outbreak appears to be concluding now, however transmission in areas outside of the camp remains uncertain.
This is not an unexpected finding, as typhoid is endemic in Haiti. This event is representative of an IDIS Category 1 at this point.
