Thanks to Haitian officials' rapid response to our query, the National Laboratory (LNSP) and CDC have officially confirmed the strain is NOT resistant to doxycycline. It is sensitive to doxycycline, cipro, and tetracycline but resistant to ampicillian and bactrim.

Hi Jen,
You are correct, and it is a typo. My apologies!

Hi,
A few more questions:
1. How would you recommend dosing Doxycycline in children over 8? Should they get the adult dose of 300 mg or should it be dosed on weight?
2. In the setting of an epidemic, would Doxy be recommended for young children and pregnant women, even though it normally wouldn't be given to these populations?
3. Related to #2 above, do you have any sensitivity/resistance data on Erythromycin and Azithromycin? I've been recommending that these antibiotics be used for children under 8 and pregnant women.
Thank you!
Jen Halverson MD
