MSPP has shared the following report, "Belle-Anse (Saltrou) 18.2372,-72.0656; 2 dead, 1 very sick". This site is on the southern coast of the Southern Peninsula. We are seeing more and more rural communities reporting first contact and reflects the immediate need for emergency medical care. Although the entire country and the response community is sensitized, it is nevertheless strained beyond its functional limit, therefore we expect large delays in securing emergency aid for the south. We are therefore even more concerned about outcomes there than the north and Port au Prince, as these areas have more resources currently. A subsequent post exploring where the resources are currently will further highlight this concern.
Of particular note is the substantial improvement the HEAS community has observed over the last couple of weeks in terms of proactive MSPP and PAHO involvement in emergency alert and medical response operations by the HEAS community. The community is beginning to join the official and unofficial response systems now at a true operational level. This has been a positive sociological development we hope continues.
